@nickarndt36803 years ago Great video! My grandfather is from Kaliningrad, from when it still was German and I was always fascinated about it but had never seen any of it. Thanks for showing me around one of my family's ancestral homes. It's great to see that we are now in a time where hostilities are in the past and both German and Russian heritage is embraced side by side. ... 165

@Richard.Holmquist4 years ago Kaliningrad is famous for a mathematical problem known as The Seven Bridges of Königsberg. The problem was solved by a Swiss mathematician Leonard Euler in 1736 laying the foundations for topology and graph theory. 312

@rameji-chan7373 years ago My grandmother was forced to flee from Königsberg after WW2. She's told me so many, many gruesome stories about what happened there and on her way to Germany. Honestly, it's so weird to actually see footage of how her hometown looks like now. I'm glad it's such a lively place today. ... 304

@mszczabel4 years ago I am impressed about the change of the city and surroundings within the last 25 years. When I've been there in 1994 it was awful, sad and depressing soviet town... You gave me a kick to go there again :) Thanks 89

@SteamboatWilley3 years ago I hope Kaliningrad keeps and expands its tram system. The UK made the mistake of dismantling most of its tram systems back in the '50s and '60s and now many (such as Sheffield, Edinburgh and Nottingham) are having to be rebuilt. ... 49

@beprakash14 years ago I am from Nepal and love watching your videos because you are so descriptive and gives me a feeling that I am also present right there while watching. Many of my school friends after completing their high school went to Russia to study medicine and engineering in the late seventies and used to listen to their college life back then and always imagine how it was then. Your videos are spotless and really worth your effort. Keep on going and best regards. :) :) ... 33

    @l.b.62883 years ago My motherland.
Film-story. Very carefully and lovingly filmed. No politics, just facts. You can talk endlessly about the city. It is very nice to see how much has been restored and how much has been rebuilt. How they treat the monuments with care. Rebuilt the Synagogue, which was simply destroyed by the Nazis. People of different nationalities live here and they have no problems between them. I love to come back here again and again. Here are the graves of my parents, relatives, friends. My heart is here. ...

@daniel1981233 years ago Great video! I was always fascinated by the Teutonic Knights and the history of Königsberg and I was always curious about what it was like after 1945, when it became Kaliningrad. The same curiosity I have for Dantzig and the Polish Gdánsk. You show us how it is today! Thanks! Congratulations from São Paulo, Brazil! ... 38

@WorkshopYS4 years ago Although I may never visit Russia, I found your videos of Kaliningrad and Vladivostok to be really fascinating. While watching the Kaliningrad videos, I realized that it was Königsberg; the math puzzle I used to study when I was a child was the Seven Bridges of Königsberg and to see it, albeit briefly, almost makes me want to visit. Keep up the good work and showing the kinder side of Russia. If anyone gets something out of these kind of videos, it's that people are different, but people are also the same everywhere. - By the way, if you visit Philly, come to King of Prussia... fair warning, it is nothing like Prussia. ... 54

@viktoriabentham8664last year It's really interesting to see how respectful the Russians who live there today are to the German heritage, there appears to be very little hatred between Germany and Russia today. Sadly in Britain we are encouraged to hate both peoples, it's very irrational and I hope for peace. This documentary was very enlightening and valuable, thank you! <3 ... 22

@upredfield4 years ago Finally a good video about Kaliningrad in english, thank you! Views from drone and interview with Vladimir are excellent (he knows the city surprisingly well, it's not so common for locals). I was in the same festival on the Kneiphof island that sunday =))
p.s. the oldest building in the city is Juditter Kirche (1276) and not the Königsberg Cathedral as many think.

@DrinkingStar3 years ago Definitely a "Thumbs Up. Thanks for showing this region which I just discovered due to another video on Youtube that dealt with Baltic Forest and Moorland. I am amazed how beautiful this region of the world is. I love the look of Kaliningrad. I truly appreciate that you delved into the history of this region and its city.
I am a beach bum and am curious about the temperature and swimmablity of the water here. I love the width and expanse of the beach in your video as well as the lack of a crowd on the beach.
I also thank you for speaking in English. Your English was so perfect that I thought your were an American. I intend to view your other videos, especially your video of you swimming and surfing at the beach and hope it is as good as this one. Once again, Thanks and Thumbs Up.

Thank you for asking interesting questions about finances and housing in Kaliningrad. Also, the coffee you drank looked incredible. @markbrandenburg44443 years ago Really interesting to see the differences in architecture between German and Russian in Kaliningrad
My grandfather grew up there and missed his home all his life since they had to leave the area when WW2 ended.
But in his garage he always had a big map from Soviet time of the " Калининградская область". As a child i tried to read the russian names but later i was able to read them right and then i called the Russian name to my grandpa and he translated me to the former german name of the town or village. I was reading Черняховск (Chernyahovsk) and he answered "Insterburg, there was my home"
By the way, my grandpa always liked the former Soviet Union and Russians of course, no matter what happened in history.

@davidjackson41814 years ago Slava you really have a wonderful talent. Not only for capturing natural, architectural and historical beauty and wonders, but also all importantly that of anthropology. The golden thread of humanity which weaves people to places where they live.
You remind me of Frederick Skavlan from Norge who is the world's best interviewer. You want to learn something about a public figure or celebrity, you watch his interview of them because he lets his guest speak, not his ego.
I love when you speak to locals because that's when I learn the most.
I also love Lena's accompaniment with you on your travel accounts. She is smart and elegant but importantly real and humanistic as are your mum and sis too.
I particularly loved and learnt much on this video and will be making a beeline here as an easy to travel, microcosm of greater Russia.
Spasiba from your friend in Australia.
Ps your editing and drone images are phenomenal too.
    Truly brilliance all around.
