I'm back with another, Beauty Tips with Britt, and asking my go-to question as I switch out toxic products with non-toxic, green beauty alternatives. The question is, "what's inside?" This is part review, part follow-up to my Keratosis Pilaris videos that I did when I was trying out a few lotions to see what kinds of improvements I could make to the dry skin on the backs of my arms. FYI- I look at EWG.org for most of my information and go to sites they recommend because I know they're reputable. All information below is pulled from EWG.org. You can find their database here: http://bit.ly/2xfUxNu A few notes on the product that I touch on briefly in the video: ✸ Paula's Choice RESIST Weightless Body Treatment with 2% BHA is $26 and I bought it here: http://bit.ly/2wXpcAN ✸ From the brand, about the brand: "This lightweight yet moisturizing body lotion is a completely non-abrasive, gentle way to shed built-up layers of dead skin, resulting in unbelievably smooth, younger-looking skin from the neck down.-Made in the USA, No animal testing, non-irritating” That means no added fragrance, dyes or ingredients that can harm the health and function of your skin." Here's what I found out: Overall it's a relatively "clean" product with 3's across the board from EWG which is a nice low number, but it's not perfect. This lotion DID work for me. It really smoothed out my skin and continues to even out my skin tone better than the AHA version that I tried. So for now, I'll keep it but will look to alternatives down the line. I think my skin will also improve when I start taking better care of things like nutrition and hydration so I plan to take a more inside-out approach moving forward. All that said, here were the biggest offenders. I've seen worse, but I'm still not happy with "semi-clean" for a lotion I put on my body daily... ▶︎ SODIUM HYDROXIDE- EWG score, 3 "Other MODERATE concerns: Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive); Other LOW concerns: Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), Occupational hazards. About: Sodium Hydroxide is a highly caustic and reactive inorganic base."- EWG.org ▶︎ LAURETH-7- EWG score, 3 "Other HIGH concerns: Contamination concerns. About: Laureth-7 is a polyethylene glycol-based surfactant; may contain potentially toxic impurities such as 1,4-dioxane." -EWG.org ▶︎ DIMETHICONE- EWG score, 3 "Other MODERATE concerns: Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive); Other LOW concerns: Data gaps, Ecotoxicology." -EWG.org Thanks for watching!
