@shragafyvushnochomowitz63947 months ago A very brief summary of facts:
the historical records show that jews who lived in israel prior to 70ad were displaced by the roman empire and under after the end of the roman empire, the turkish ottoman empire ruled israel, by which time the namehad been changed by vespasian to
the namereflects historical records of greek and roman sources: it means " a place bereft of
palestine as a 20th century entity was created by the british after the defeat of the ottoman empire; under british rule the local authority split israel into two parts namely the hashemite kingdom of trans-jordan on the east bank of the jordan river and the state of israel in the west bank of the jordan river

@mmeysarosh7 months ago First, palestine as defined was originally termed by the greek in trade with the philistines about 12th century bc or nearly 1900 years before the first yasser arafat was the figure who defined the name palestinians under the plo flag in 1964 for the current struggle we see today. Prior to the current situation, the territory had been under the ottoman empire, the crusaders, various arab caliphates, byzantines, and the mongols had reached it as well. The point being is the modern day palestinians do not have any clear connection to the ancient philistines for which they derive their name from.
the final history of the philistines was them being wiped around the 5th century bc by thethe modern day palestinians are thought to be a blend of various arab descents that had controlled the territories at points between the 7th-20th centuries ad with no relation to the philistines. Never really identifying at any point as palestinians until 1964.
israel had taken control of significant territories during the third arab-israeli war that was initiated when nasser of egypt blocked the straight of tamir, which israel warned post the second arab-israeli war in 1956 would constitute an act of war. This event was the catalyst to the modern occupations we see today. Some of the other israeli territory gains were a result of the arab refusal of the 1947 un partition plan and subsequently declared a war, which resulted instead in the establishment of the state of israel. Its what palestinians call ' the disaster'
while he is correct that there haven' t been a modern state of israel and the last dated to the roman empire, there had been two separate periods in what some would consider a state (kingdoms back then) but there hasn' t been any existence a state of palestine in modern or ancient history.
this journalist has perspectives which sound like massages on historical events, but that can be said of most viewpoints. But as some have already stated, much of the modern mess was a british creation in their efforts in the area
