The 2/6th Cavalry Commando Regiment formed in November 1939 as a cavalry unit operating as an armoured reconnaissance regiment. It served in North Africa and the Middle East, including at Tobruk. Following Japan's entry into the Second World War, the unit transformed into a commando regiment. It went on to serve in New Guinea. Each year on 3rd November a service takes place to honour the officers and men of the regiment - both those who fell in battle and those since departed. While our doors are temporarily closed we will continue to honour the service and sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of Victorians.
