The Altamont Corridor Express, or ACE for short is a commuter train service that operates between Stockton and San Jose, California - a distance of 84 miles. Trains travel on tracks owned by the Union Pacific Railroad making station stops in Lathrop, Tracy, Livermore, Pleasanton, Fremont, and Santa Clara. ACE began operations on October 19th, 1998 and was originally called the Altamont Commuter Express. Trains are made up of bombardier bilevel commuter coaches and cab cars pulled by F40PH-3C locomotives built by Motive Power Incorporated in Boise, Idaho. Let’s take one last look back at ACE service as it has been for the last several years as the F40s pull commuters back and forth between the San Joaquin Valley and Silicon Valley.
