@travisstarbuck44964 years ago Srv vs eddie this is not fair. They both had different approaches to music. The technical virtuosity of evh is perfect. Srv soul and nailing the landing . ...Expand 68

@nealgunn58622 years ago Love them both but if i had to listen to one for 24 hours straight it would be srv. 8

@summermcpherson82093 years ago I can hear evh and srv playing guitar duets in heaven: 20
  • @
@standepain4 years ago The crazy thing is eddie probably wouldn' t have even been able to play stevie' searly 80s when he was using 13 gauge strings. Both goddamn legends! 18

@magpies201014 years ago Its a pity the two never jammed together, both naturals who genuinely loved to play. 14

@bhobo094 years ago Unfair comparison. Both are awesome talented musicians in their own way in different styles of music. I love both and rip both. Hope they get to jam together in heaven: 14

@shirleybuffington64204 years ago I said srv all the way lets see eddie van halen put the guitar behind him and play it without missing a beat he is good at playing it in front but i have never seen him play behind his back. 21

@charleschoat35264 years ago Eddie was my favorite for many years until i discovered svr. 32
  • @
@mikegoldstein12464 years ago And anyone who says eddie doesnt play with any feel is dumb as shit. Listen to the isolated guitar tracks from every van halen song and it will blow your mind. Eddie' s sense of rythm is other worldly. 6
  • @
@EricbyEric3 years ago Srv is g. O. A. T but eddie is an freakin good guitarist aswell! 8

  • @
@zemlidrakona29153 years ago Note srv is playing jimi hendrix not his own music. And evh isn' t really playing a song, he' s just noodling around. Imo, a better comparison would be each playing their own songs. 4
  • @
@derrickdavis20124 years ago Both were beasts. One is a known guitar soloistthe other is an all around bad ass musician, singer, guitar player, and music writer. 3

@robertthibodeau70054 years ago This isn' t very fair. Stevie is playing an actual song, where as eddie is doing a solo. To do a true battle, they would both have been on the same . ...Expand 5

@malteraff52372 years ago My 4 favorite alltime guitar players are: jimi hendrix - the original master, evh - the innovater, srv - the most ernergetic blues master, gary moore - the deep soul and most touching musical perfectionist! 3

@Nordicpitbull3 years ago Different players, both legends!

@jlopez474 years ago Really? The only song you' ll play from stevie' s live sets is a song he didn' t write. I never understood the radio' s obsession with voodoo chile. He had his own songs, you know. 19

@mikestevens55122 years ago The very best part of eddie is he would
immediately hug stevie and tell him how f#$kg great he was. Like he did angus young, brian may, jimmy page etc
    with a giant smile!

@lucas123bigman3 years ago The only diference that u see two masters of the guitar eddie is playing on an ordinary strings and stevie plays on 013 gauge witch are the hardest to play on.
  • @
@howard7313 months ago I' ll have to go with srv for the win i feel like i can vibe with his music evh is good but chaotic with it i just can' t vibe with it but that' s just me they are both good in my opinion.
  • @
@jakeritchie38053 years ago Let ask the 1000 dollar question. Could eddie play eruption with 13 gauge stri gs? Long live the ki g of six strings srv. But eddie was amazing himself. 1
  • @
@jerryees2 years ago I dont think i ever saw eddy play the guitar behind his back! 1
  • @
@excelerater3 years ago Stevie always gets my vote but eddie created so much innovation in his guitar and the way it' s played. Too bad they never got together and played. All the best axemen are dead. Kinda sad. 1
  • @
@JohnDoe-ks4idlast year Why only show rhythm tracks from srv and solos from ev? Bad comparison.
  • @
@LS-ki9ft2 years ago Love them both and miss them both. I' m not a guitar player, so i' m just stating what i feel here. If there is a difference for me, it is that stevie for example, the last song on in step, which was entitled " riveriastevie seemed to be developing into maybe more of a jazz-rock fusion type of player.
in the end, van halen, sadly was more about the drama rather than the music. Thething got really tiring after a while.
finally, it really is unfair to compare, because they were both unique and different. Lucky for us, both artists' music will live forever

@Thomas-qe7ez2 years ago Evh was an unbelievably talented guitarist. But srv was all in on every single practice session, much less an actual performance. To srv, the guitar was somehow spiritual. 1
  • @
@stephenboyes51893 years ago Hendrix owns them both, for me i would eddie because hes more unique but you are looking top 5 of all time all of em its down to personal preference. 1
  • @
@mikegaddis74814 years ago Love both. Srv could snatch that guitar from evh hands if he wanted to (srv is way too humble to do that) and embarrass him.
  • @
@DonDon-ju4yv4 years ago Maybe not fair to compare these two. So i' ll take advantage of that. Srv is a wild freakn bull in a china shop. Eddie is an amazing second runner srv can solo and carry a show. Eddie eventually needs a band to fill in. Srv is the turtle. Eddie the hare.
srv is grit and sweat - eddie is simpler to learn. I started playing his style at 13. And to this day have a hard time not breaking fingers to srv.
but eddie is amazing. But this is how it plays out. Ask a guitarist and they will tell you. Srv is dad. Period

@alejandrotang7863 years ago The electric guitar helps edv to make a good picking technique. Imagine himself playing an acoustic guitar, he cant handle it.
srv mastered the acoustic and electric guitar.

  • @
@davidkirkpatrick7123 years ago Danny gatton is better than both those two put together.
  • @
@alejandrotang7863 years ago Edv plays every chord of the guitar, without building any structured melody. At least jimmy pages picking technique builds a rhythm, a structured song. Edv is full noise. 1
