Robbins is joined by Dr. Cecilia Rosales, Interim Associate Dean, Community Engagement & Outreach at the University’s Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. She is also a Professor and Chair of the Division of Public Health Practice & Translational Research, at the Phoenix Biomedical Campus. Dr. Rosales and her team led the pilot COVID-19 antibody test site on April 30, 2020, in Tucson, Arizona, and will soon ramp up testing across Tucson, Phoenix and many underserved markets across the state. As the lead for the University’s Primary Prevention Mobile Health Unit, Cecilia shares that before the COVID-19 pandemic, the unit was used for providing free preventive health screening assessments (e.g., Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Hemoglobin A1c, etc.) and access to health services to underserved populations. Beginning in May, the MHU is also facilitating the first phase of free antibody testing for many in the University community, up to 1,500 residents in Pima County, and 3,000 health care workers and first responders. President Robbins and Dr. Rosales also discuss her leadership and collaboration with the United States-Mexico Border Health Commission and Colegio de la Frontera, and the Virtual Seminar series: COVID-19 Response Along the United States-Mexico Border. Through webinars, public health experts share information and mitigation efforts in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, while finding opportunities to coordinate and share resources. The University of Arizona existed before Arizona was a state. Our first graduating class in 1895 consisted of two women and one male. Since then, we've learned that we're better together. We do more when we work across backgrounds, skills and perspectives. That's how we've become long-time partners with NASA, leaders in both the arts and sciences, and able to prepare students to succeed in a world where most of the jobs today's kindergartners will have don't even exist yet. We know how to converge. #universityofarizona #arizona #university
