Australia 'is right' to oppose China's actions in the South China Sea

The Australian’s Dennis Shanahan says the federal government is right to oppose China's territorial claims in the South China Sea. Australia’s UN envoy Mitch Fifield has filed a declaration at the United Nations rejecting China’s maritime claims around contested islands in the South China Sea. Australia is now claiming China’s actions are inconsistent with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and therefore invalid. "We already know it's illegal because the World Court has said so," Mr Shanahan told Sky News host Peta Credlin. "Australia is doing the right thing and Australia shouldn't back down on suggestions that it not be provocative".
